What are you most concerned about as you embark on creating a curriculum unit?
My main concern is making sure that the activities we plan will match our time frame. Because I have never planned online activities and lessons, I am not sure how to estimate the amount of time that will be needed for the students to complete them. Especially if we choose web 2.0 tools that we have not used before, it may be difficult to properly predict the amount of time we will need for them.
I also am concerned that there is not a specific format to follow. The unit can last for any amount of time and we can outline it in a week to week manner, but I do not know how detailed to go. Should the unit include everything? For example, if the assignment for one week is to answer a question on a discussion forum, do we create the questions that we want to be answered?
Hi Heather,
ReplyDeleteYou raise a good point about the time frame. I was concerned in my post about having a Plan B if learners weren't learning, and this fits with my worry. If there is a certain amount of content to fill a certain amount of time, what happens when they don't catch on? We will see! Thanks for posting....
Once you decide on the content and time frame, then you fill it in. In the case of an online course, if you decide to use a discussion forum, then you do need to tell us the prompts. In online courses, you can't throw out a question and, if it doesn't get the right response, change it, as you can in a f2f class, so we need to know how you think you will get the conversation going.
